At Harlow Judo Club we start new beginners from the age of 5
On arrival you will be greeted by one of the admin staff and given a few details, you will then be asked to complete a form for our records. After this you will be introduced to the coach responsible for your free introductory lesson.
After you lesson we would appreciate any feedback comments that you may have. At this stage you will be asked to register for a 6 week beginner’s course which will cost £35.00, the start date will be explained to you at this time.
After 4 weeks the club will register you with the British Judo Association on a pay as you throw licence, this will be your insurance when doing judo. After 4 weeks you cannot practice judo without a licence.
The British Judo Association are the governing body for judo in this country.
At the 4 week stage you will be required to buy a suit. The club sells new suits starting from £25.
Players will continue on the course for the next 2 weeks.
At the end of the course you will have a decision to make, do you want to join Harlow Judo Club? This will be an annual payment of £20.00. When joining we will ask you to complete a more comprehensive membership form. As a member of Harlow Judo Club the mat fee will be £29 per month for up to 3 lessons per week. Once you have joined the club the next payment will be £15.00 for a judo examination (grading) which will be after your second 6 week induction period. More information will be given as you get nearer your examination date.
This will complete your introduction to the ultimate sport of Judo which I hope you have enjoyed. Please let us know if you have not. As a registered player with the B.J.A you should receive a reminder to extend your pay as you throw licence into a full membership. Our membership secretary (Gill) will also help you with this.
